Bell Ringers

Bell ringing, or campanology is an activity like no other! It is a mix of team work, mental and physical exercise. The ringers at St Ed’s are a newly established team of people from the local community that are ringing the ropes. This is a process that takes years of dedication to master, always learning from other ringers passing on skills to the next generation

The western tower at St. Ed's has a set of six bells in the key of  E â™,dated from the 16th century and was rehung in 1998. The heaviest bell is 17.2.20 cwt (898 kg). They call out for the announcement of a celebration and toll for sadness, letting all in hearing range to come together. Announcements by the bells have a long standing place in British history

We are always looking for new recruits to help ring the church bells. Most people have the ability to become a great ringer. Physical strength in not required and people from the age of ten, accompanied by a parent, and upwards are welcome to come and try
